                                 Basic Rules of a Detox Diet

I would like to cover some basic rules of a detox to help you stay on track when cleansing the body of the unwanted toxins. I know that most of us are too busy all the time so it is very hard to eat healthy when your eating on the fly or when you get home your just too darn tired out. The truth is most of us are a bit lazy and a quick meal is usually what we make if we don’t bring it home with us.
 
The liver is our body's key detoxifying organ and it does an excellent  job of cleansing and detoxifying our body all on its own. Think of it as a Post office or sorting facility with all the different shapes and sizes of different toxins been thrown at it sorting out compounds and chemicals, and sending unwanted stuff to our intestines to expel as stool, or to our kidneys to excrete as urine.
 
The basic premises of any detox diet is increasing our fluid intake and cutting out bad habits such as eating processed foods, smoking cigarettes and consuming alcohol. If we just cut back on these alone would be positive measures that we can take to give the body a break and make us really feel better.
 
Here I have listed some main rules for any detox diet that you can do for next to nothing.
 
Increase your intake of the following;
  • Exercise – even a light walk to start with
  • Fruits and Vegetables – you can buy these already cut in the bag
  • Whole Foods - foods that are unprocessed and unrefined
  • Natural Antioxidants - Vitamins C and E and beta-carotene, zinc and selenium
  • Organic Foods
  • More Fish or omega-3 fatty acids, and linolenic acids
  • Drink lots of water
  • Eat more fiber to improve digestion – Bran muffins or raisin bran
  • Air Purifiers you can’t eat but they eliminate dust and contaminates
 
Decrease or Eliminate
  • Sugar
  • Saturated and Hydrogenated fats
  • Refined flour products
  • Alcohol
  • Recreational drugs
  • Fried foods
  • Milk products
  • Late night eating
  • Stress
  • Nicotine
  • Food preservatives
You should also cleanse your liver by taking herbs such as dandelion root, burdock and milk thistle, and drinking green tea.
