Diagnosed With Obstruction Bowel

obstruction bowel

First what is meant by obstruction bowel? This is an obstruction in the small or large intestine that will prevent the normal transit of the products of digestion. If diagnosed can be very painful and cause vomiting, constipation, abdominal distension and even fecal vomiting in some cases. Although the obstruction bowel causes constipation you still may have a bowel movement if there is stool after the blockage.

Continuous and severe pain in one area of the abdomen can mean that the blockage has cut off the bowel’s blood supply. This now becomes a medical emergency so if the follow symptom occurs consult a doctor right away before the issues become sever.

Some of the first signs of an obstruction bowel in the small intestine will be bloating and intermittent cramping or spasms in the middle abdomen that last for just a few minutes but keep returning every few minutes also. Shortness of breath is common because of the increased pressure on the diaphragm and vomiting starts before constipation has time to set in.

Some of the first signs of an obstruction bowel in the large intestine will be pain from the lower abdomen and the cramping and spasms last much longer then in the small intestine. It not normal is to have vomiting occur with and obstruction in the lower intestine but constipation will still occur.

Note that some bowel obstruction can resolve them selves but usually require medical assistance. Doctors can determine the severity of the obstruction using X-ray or CT Scanning or sometimes blood work but most will require some sort of medical intervention.
